Collages
It is a process. These are a set of collages made using photographs—collected from varied sources and, more recently, my own. I use them as points of departure rather than endpoints, treating each image as a fragment to be reinterpreted through a layered process. A photograph is first affixed to the surface, then altered by subtracting, obscuring, or cutting sections before reworking them with washes of watercolor. This cycle of removal and addition creates a dialogue between image and paint. Through this method, I explore the tension between reference and invention, balancing recognition with gesture, transparency, and atmosphere to form evolving compositions.
